The Adventures of Black Beauty is a British children’s television drama series produced by London Weekend Television and aired between 1972 and 1974. Two seasons were produced, the first airing from September 1972 to March 1973 and the second from September 1973 to March 1974. Although it was mainly aimed at children, it was shown in the Sunday teatime family timeslot and gained a wide audience, becoming popular enough to make the general Top 20 ratings. It was repeated regularly, although often on a regional basis, for many years.

The series was not an adaptation of the book by Anna Sewell, but a “continuation” featuring new characters created by Ted Willis, most prominently Dr James Gordon, played by William Lucas, and his children Vicky, played by Judi Bowker (who became Jenny, played by Stacy Dorning, in the second series) and Kevin, played by Roderick Shaw. Other writers included David Butler and Richard Carpenter, while directors included Charles Crichton and Peter Duffell. The series, which was filmed mainly at Stockers Farm, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, was widely acclaimed for its high production values and quality of writing and acting, and at times had remarkable English gothic overtones for a children’s series.

There were 52 episodes made in the series. It marked Cosby’s first solo foray in television, after his co-starring role with Robert Culp in I Spy. The series also marked the first time an African American starred in his or her own eponymous comedy series.

In this light-hearted comedy, Bill Cosby played the role of Chet Kincaid, physical education teacher at a Los Angeles high school, bachelor, and average cool guy trying to earn a living, helping people out along the way.

DragonflyTV showcases our most eager young scientists in a way that encourages all kids to discover the wonders of science. It’s a new approach in science television for kids, because it features ordinary children and their own science investigations. The programs highlight children “doing” projects with real hands-on experience and demonstrates practical applications of mathematics and science. It introduces young viewers to a variety of scientific disciplines and challenges them in critical thinking and problem solving skills, while providing valuable information to reach answers.

Whether shooting over moguls on freeride skis, getting up close and personal with alligators, or cooking up experiments in their own kitchens, the DragonflyTV kids empower viewers to explore, question, and learn. In each episode, children tell how they pursued their own investigations, communicating the infectious excitement that comes with making their own discoveries.

“Dragonfly TV” is closed-captioned for the hearing impaired and displays the “E/I” icon throughout the broadcast.

Jonathan and Mark are given “assignments” by “The Boss” (God) where they are required to use their humanity (and sometimes a little bit of “The Stuff”) in order to help various troubled souls to overcome their problems. Examples of these problems include families dealing with sick loved ones; wealthy and greedy businessmen being encouraged to use their wealth for good; and discouraging prejudice in regards to people of different ethnicities, appearances, or socioeconomic backgrounds or who have disabilities.

While dealing with these situations with sensitivity, Highway to Heaven also used humor – particularly between Jonathan and Mark. Their personalities often clashed (Jonathan being more sensible and compassionate but naive, and Mark being more pragmatic and cynical), but they always supported each other. Jonathan’s mission on Earth was to do enough good so that he could ‘earn his wings’ and presumably, ascend to heaven. Due to the close relationship that builds between Jonathan and Mark, this becomes a contentious issue as Mark doesn’t want to lose his friend to “The Boss”, and sometimes tries to prevent it from happening.

The weekly program has been on the air for twenty-three years.

Hometime’s aim is to provide the average homeowner with step-by-step home improvement advice for professional-looking results. In addition to how-to instruction, the show provides information on constructing new houses and renovating older homes.

Hometime was founded in 1984 by Dean Johnson to provide a new source of how-to home improvement information. Johnson’s plan was to produce a series of videotapes for distribution through hardware stores and home centers. The concept was soon expanded to include the television series, which premiered on public television November 1, 1986. For many years during the 1990s, Hometime was a mainstay of The Learning Channel, airing multipletimes each week. Since 2001, an additional version of Hometime has been seen on commercial television stations around the country.

Dean Johnson and Miriam Johnson (no relation) are the hosts of Hometime. They are joined by a team of two carpenter/craftsmen: Dan (“Lenny”) Laabs and Tom (“Buki”) Weckwerth. Previous Hometime cohosts include Robin Hartl (1992-2004), Suzanne Egli (1991-1992), JoAnne Leibeler (1987-1991), and Peggy Knapp (1986).
